A Childhood of Dual Rhythms

Growing up as the middle child in a big, patchwork family, my world was a fusion of sounds and cultures. My dad’s Nigerian heritage brought vibrant church singing and the infectious energy of Afrobeat into my life. Sundays were filled with soulful harmonies and uplifting choirs, while weekdays were soundtracked by the booming bass of car speakers blasting Hip Hop classics from the 2000s and 2010s—alongside the timeless brilliance of Nigerian legends.

On the other hand, my mom’s love for jazz painted a different picture. The soft hum of her radio filled our home with the melodies of Roland Kirk and other jazz icons. These contrasting influences—Afro-inspired rhythms and the smooth improvisation of jazz—laid the foundation for my musical DNA.

The Cellar Sessions

By the time I was in high school, I was making music with a friend in his cellar. That tiny space became our creative haven—a place where ideas flowed freely and beats never stopped. It was there that I found my voice, honed my craft, and decided that music wasn’t just a hobby; it was my path.
